Rainy Wedding Day Tips

What To Do If It Rains On Your Wedding Day

If it’s going to be raining all day, then that’s going to be a part of your wedding photos – no way to hide it. There’s no point in Googling ‘how to prevent rain on your wedding day’. (Believe me, I’ve seen the search data – it’s happening.) It doesn’t even matter if you book your wedding on a prime summer date. If you’re in the UK – it could happen WHENEVER.

But there are a few ways that you can work around it and make it easier for everyone, while still getting beaut photos out of it.

Bring Clear Umbrellas

The absolute number one tip I can give you, especially for an outdoor wedding (or a wedding where you’re moving between spaces or venues) is to buy a whole load of large clear umbrellas. If it looks like it’s going to be raining, chances are people will bring their own, but they’re always nice to have ready for your guests just in case. PLUS the clear umbrellas avoid messing with any aesthetic choices or clashing with outfits. They’re also really handy for photos. You can get your whole squad using them for the group photos, and they’re also ideal for couple shots too. The beauty of the clear umbrellas specifically is that they’ll keep you dry while still allowing you to get some nice shots as they let LOADS of light in, plus they’re also great for giving you the opportunity to get nice and close and have a cosy little moment together.

Wedding Wellies

My next most valuable tip is footwear. Invest in some lovely wedding wellies. If you’re in a floor-length dress, chances are no one will see them. And if you’re in a suit, then you’ll be giving off some serious countryside-glam vibes. Wedding wellies (or other weather-proof footwear) will be super handy just to change into for your photos, and means you won’t be getting wet muddy toes if we want to go on an adventure. There’s the classic hunter wellies, but I’ve also recently discovered that bridal wellies do in fact exist, if you wanna get really fancy about things.

Pick a wedding venue with lovely indoor space

Your wedding venue will be able to solve a lot of ‘rainy wedding day’ problems. So try to pick a venue that has indoor space that you can use if things get a bit wet. That way, your guests can make a mad dash if the sky decides to open, but we can also use the space for photos. Your table setup can make for some beautiful photos for the two of you. And any larger space is fabulous for an emergency group shot location.

It Probably Won’t Rain All Day

In terms of practical ‘things to buy and plan’ tips, those are over. My next tip is pretty self explanatory – chances are, it won’t actually rain ALL day. As long as you’re willing to be a bit flexible, we can quickly nip out during those dry spells and tick off those photos as we go. If you’ve got some excellent people herders on hand, we can make the group photos quick and easy in five/ten minute bursts. And we can shoot your couple photos in little ten minute slots throughout the day. But, for some really dramatic shots…

Embrace Your Rainy Wedding Day

Just go ahead and embrace the rain. Let’s go for some dramatic The Notebook-style rainy wedding photos. We can head out for a mad five minutes and get your some gorgeous moody wedding pics in the rain. We can dry you off later.

The jury is still out on whether rain on your wedding day is good luck or not. But it doesn’t have to be a disaster for your wedding day as long as you’re prepared and flexible.
