Mismatched Bridesmaids Dresses Inspiration

Bridesmaids dresses can be an absolute headache, trying to find a dress that suits everyone and that everyone likes. Everyone has different shapes and preferences, so the chances of finding one perfect dress for all of your bridesmaids are pretty slim. I’ve seen over the last couple of years a growing trend in mismatched bridesmaids dresses and I am fully OBSESSED. There are loads of different ways this can be done too, whether you still want to choose your bridesmaids dresses, or want to leave it up to them.

Multiway bridesmaids dresses

Multiway bridesmaids dresses are a really good way to get the ‘same but different’ mismatched bridesmaids dresses look. Most of the time, it’ll be a maxi dress with a top that you can customise and tie in different ways. There’s plenty of ways to tie it in different ways that suit everyone, depending on if they like halterneck, thick straps, shoulders covered, whatever makes your bridesmaids happy! (Plus they make for some really lovely prep photos will everyone’s tying eachother’s dresses up!)

One colour different style

If you have a colour scheme in mind, but want to give your bridesmaids the choice of style that they’ll be happy and comfortable in, then giving them the option of style in a certain shade. This way you’ll have everyone in dusty blue, but everyone will be wearing a style that they look and feel good in – just like Danny & Jonny did.

Same colour different shade

If you want a little bit more variety than just one shade, then you could give your bridesmaids different shades to choose from. That way if you’ve got a colour palette of pink, you can have a couple of the girls wearing dusty pink, baby pink, or hot pink to mix it up a bit. Again, this can be done with one style of dress for a bit more cohesion, or different styles of dress for an excellent mismatched bridesmaids dress effect.

Give each bridesmaid a colour

And for the FULL mismatched bridesmaids dress effect, give each bridesmaid a colour and tell them to go wild. This works best if you’ve got a wider colour scheme, like ‘autumn colours’. In the wedding below, my bride gave two bridesmaid a colour each, and told them to dress to impress, leading to some STUNNINGLY dressed bridesmaids.
