At last a post that isn’t about me taking photos of someone or something! (still including photos though, OBVIOUSLY, it wouldn’t be me otherwise) It’s been a long time since I’ve done a fashion and beauty post, so I’m loving life right now.
Last week, my friend James and I went to Royal Ascot, which gave me the perfect excuse to dress up like a proper girl, something I definitely don’t do often or enough. Sometimes its nice to look fancy, ya know?
So, I thought I’d take this opportunity to have a lil chat about my look. God I hope I still remember how to beauty blog.
Whenever I’m doing a look that’s quite heavily focused on the eye, that’s where I start. I’m not the tidiest of make-up appliers, so as long as I can easily get rid of my mistakes and any fallout, I’m happy. Starting on my brows, I fill them in with Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Medium Brown, then tidying them up with my Tarte Shape Tape in Light Sand. God I love that stuff. Next is the actual eyeshadow. I used my Huda Desert Dusk palette for the whole thing after priming and setting with my Urban Decay Original Primer Potion and De-Slick mattifying powder. Starting with Desert Sand all over the lid and crease as a base colour, I then apply Musk generously into the crease, taking it all the way towards my inner corner. Being tidy at the moment doesn’t particularly matter, as I can clean it up later when I ~cut my crease~. Once my crease is nice and defined, I apply some more of Musk towards the outer corner, bringing it into the centre of the lid, mixing it with the tiniest bit of Oud, just to smoke it out a bit. Using a fluffy pencil brush, I lightly added a bit of Oud to my crease to give it that little bit of extra definition.
Next is the first scary bit. Cutting my crease. I’m only doing a half crease, so it could be MUCH worse. Applying my same Shape Tape concealer into the corner of my eyelid, I then pat the shimmery shade Cashmere straight on, no setting or anything, just get it on there. I find that way it sticks on SO much better, especially when gasp I use my finger, too. Now that’s done and blended into the Musk on the rest of my lid, it’s time for the REALLY scary bit. Eyeliner. This bit is make or break, especially with something as waterproof as my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper. Sometimes I amaze myself with my own eyeliner skills. Other times I wonder why people don’t point and laugh at my makeup. Because sometimes they should. Once I’ve got that sultry wing going on, I apply a bit of mascara and that’s the eyes done…for now.
Moving on to face, I prime with my Urban Decay B6 Prep Spray and then the Optical Illusion primer to get rid of those pesky pores. I also colour correct with the Naked Skin Colour Correction Fluids in Peach for my under-eyes and Green for any red areas (all the red areas). I always look like some sort of aztec warrior once I’m done with this. Giving that a quick blend, I then apply my Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in Shade 115, and blend that to death too with a wet beauty blender. Now for some MORE Shape Tape (seriously, I’d bathe in this stuff if I could), under my eyes, down the bridge of my nose, in a triangle on my forehead, my cupid’s bow, my chin and along my jawline underneath where I’ll contour, just to really give that cheekbone definition. I set this with my banana powder and let it bake for a while while I finish my eyes, Taking a brush with some Musk and Oud down to my lower lash line and then apply my lashes. I’m using Tarte Centre of Attention lashes, because that’s just what I like to be really.
Once that’s all sorted, I brush away the excess powder and then go over the rest with my Urban Decay powder. (Overkill maybe, but I’m an oily gal and it’s HOT outside). Then for my contour I use my Revlon bronzer under my cheekbones and down by my jawline and then around my temples and the top of my forehead. I also use a slim concealer brush to contour my nose because with a nose like that, ya gal needs some precision.
Next is my favourite part. Highlight. Using my ABH Glow Kit in Sun Dipped, I apply Tourmaline and Moonstone to my cheekbones and then Summer to my brow bone, inner corner, bridge and end of my nose and then my cupid’s bow. All the glow.
Now it’s just for lips. I’m not particularly well practiced with a lipliner, so I tried my best, with a bit of overlining to give myself a bit more. I used NYX Slide On Lip Pencil in Knock Em Red and Sleek MakeUP Matte Me Liquid Lip in Rioja Red. Damn these are some long winded names. A quick spritz with my Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray and I am done.
I whacked my hair into a quick low pony with some faffy fringe bits and a very side parting (That’s not a real phrase but okay) and get that fascinator in. This cost about £12 off of Amazon. Absolute bargain and I couldn’t fault it at all. Who says you need to spend an absolute fortune?
My dress is from Coast and I absolutely fell in love with it. I’ve always had a bit of a thing for Coast on the rare off-chance I’ll actually go to some sort of event that requires me to make an effort, they’re so classy, but still quite me. My absolute neck-breaker shoes are from Public Desire, and as much as I love them, because they make me feel fabulous, they are TERRIFYING and dear God I can’t walk in these for shit. Poor James, he had to hold me up for practically the whole day.
Overall it was a fab day, a great day for drinking Pimm’s in the winners’ circle and drinking champagne from the bottle like the classy gal I am.
