A little while ago, myself and my best friend Connor (also seen in this rainy post), on YET another rainy day, had a quick impromptu shoot out on Brighton beach after my all day conference. Yawn.
Since it was such a miserable day (why does Brighton hate me so much? Why??), the beach was wonderfully empty, giving us a great opportunity for some wide dramatic shots of an angsty looking Connor for some new shots for his music C’est la Door.
I’ve got to salute Connor for his commitment to the ~art~ because it was cold, slippery, windy, basically everything you don’t want it to be.
After watching a few Jessica Whitaker videos (my ULTIMATE photography inspiration), I decided to get a bit more ~extra~ with what we’re doing. So instead of just standing and looking moody, Connor’s walking out on a (extremely dangerous) pier, into a flock of seagulls, to pretend to walk out into the sea. I don’t see what could go wrong at all. I also got to experiment with some facial expressions.
The good thing about using my friends as models is that they’re determined to push me when it comes to directing, my ultimate weakness. I’m just shy and REALLY bad at being bossy.
It was an extra long day and we both ended up completely wind-blasted and soaked, but it was worth it, even laying on the wet grubby floor and getting my camera wet. Even the editing was fun. It was really nice to play with cool, muted colours for a change, plus it’s lucky that grey is my favourite colour. Because that’s all it is.
